Iris House provides many support groups for clients to allow them a forum for which to learn and discuss issues related to living with HIV/AIDS. The group descriptions along with the days and times are listed below.

Sister to Sister & Women Over 50

These groups are designed to support women and their families in dealing with HIV/AIDS and the issues that arise throughout one's life with the disease. The goal is to improve their internal familial relationships through discussion of many different topics including but not limited to: education, disclosure, parenting, treatment and support. The group allows the members to share their experiences in a safe caring environment.

Sister to Sister meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.
DIVAS Over 50 meets Wednesdays from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.
Both groups meet at the Main Office (2348 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd)

Women's Empowerment Group

It is a closed group that is a safe environment to foster self-empowerment in areas including but not limited to self care regarding physical and mental health as well as family.
Thurdays 10:00am to 11:00am.

This group requires a referral to the group facilitator and it meets at the main office (2348 Adam Clayton Powell  Jr. Blvd) needs referral to group facilitator.

CO-ED Groups

Harm Reduction Group

The main objective of this group is to promote health and improve the quality of life.  More specific goals are abstinence from illicit drug use or from sexual risk behaviors; reduced drug use; reduced risk for HIV transmission; and improved medical, psychological, and social functioning.

Harm Reduction Groups meet:

  • Mondays and Thursdays 1:30-3:30pm Main Office (2348 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd)
  • Thursdays 1:30-2:30pm (Eastside location-2271 Second Avenue, between East 116th and 117th Street)
  • Fridays (Spanish speaking) 1:30-2:30pm (Eastside location-2271 Second Avenue, between East 116th and 117th Street)

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) GroupThis group is designed to support the LGBT population in dealing with HIV/AIDS and the issues that arise throughout one’s life.  The goal is to provide education, information and referrals of multiple services necessary for the group in addition to receive support around issues the group may be having with main stream America.  The group also focuses on educating others on their lifestyles by conducting out-reach and presentations to communities within the tri—state area.

Latino MIX Group

This group is designed to support women and men in dealing with HIV/AIDS and the issues that arise throughout one's life with the disease. The goal is to improve their internal familial relationships through discussion of many different topics including but not limited to: education, disclosure, parenting, treatment and support. The group allows the members to share their experiences in a safe caring environment.

Latino Mix meets Fridays 11:30am to 12:30pm - Main Office 2348 Adam Clayton Powell Jr, Blvd

Men's Group

The Men's Group is a safe environment to promote the discussion and understanding of any issues that may be impacting lives of men living with HIV/AIDS.  Men's groups need referral to group facilitator.

Spanish Speaking Men's group

Mondays 12:30am to 1:30pm

English speaking Men's group

Tuesdays 11:00pm to 12:00pm
